Hello! Whatever the reason for starting a counselling journey, finding the right therapist to work with is an important step. Some people are looking for skills and strategies to cope with a specific problem, others are looking for a space to process their deeper emotions or experiences; in all instances I offer a trauma-informed, judgement free, and holistic approach to therapy. My approach incorporates a wellness lens that takes into account systemic, oppressive, historical, and relational factors in addition to your individual experience at this moment.

The clients I work with tend to be seeking therapy for some of the following reasons: Trauma - single or multiple incident events, PTSD, C-PTSD, PTSS, or who have been impacted by natural disasters. Complex family of origin experiences or intergenerational trauma. Workplace or caregiver burnout / compassion fatigue - caring for employees, children, parents, or other family members. Parenting a child with ADHD, substance use, emotion dysregulation, or serious mental health concerns, especially those caregivers who are also in the ‘helping’ professions. Grief / loss (relational or life transitions). Anxiety / depression / stress. Experiences of abuse / victimization / systemic oppression. Complex, unresolved relational patterns. I draw upon a wide range of therapeutic approaches which allows me to tailor a unique counselling experience according to the needs and wishes of each client. Some of the modalities for which I have received specific training include: Narrative Therapy / Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) / Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) / Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy (IFOT) / Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Processing (AEDP) / Gottman Therapy / Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) / Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Hello! My name is Millie Batta (she/her) and I am an RCC at Shoreline Counselling. Going to counselling is much like taking a road trip. You are the driver and I am the passenger in the front seat. As the passenger, I provide directions and help you navigate life’s challenges, but ultimately you are behind the wheel and decide the road we take. It would be an honour to be able to support you on this journey to growth and healing.

I recognize that seeking counselling can be a vulnerable step that requires courage and strength. With this in mind, I consider counselling to be sacred space and strive to provide a safe and non-judgemental atmosphere. I focus on creating a collaborative and trusting relationship, where people feel seen and heard in each session. I work to empower individuals as we collectively work towards your goals of change in a way that resonates with you. On this path to empowerment, my goal is to help you discover tools and build your personalized toolbox to live a meaningful life.

I completed my Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology at the University of Lethbridge. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Integrated Sciences from the University of British Columbia, in which I gained an understanding of the relationship between the human body and behavior. With my passion for learning, I will continue to seek additional training in order to expand and apply my clinical knowledge and skills.

The foundation of my work is based on a client-centred approach, where authenticity, acceptance, and empathy are the pillars of my counselling practice. Alongside, my lived experiences as a first-generation Indo-Canadian have helped me appreciate individual experiences and unique values. I believe therapy should reflect such diversity; thus, I work to tailor my approach to work in your best interest.

I spend a lot of time thinking about change. What inspires people to make changes in their lives? What stands in their way? How do we know when it is time for change? How do we as a society value and make meaning from the changes happening all around us? How does an ever-changing world both open and limit possibilities?

My practice is an integration of my clinical and coaching training and experience.

My clinical practice is rooted in trauma informed theory or an understanding of how our nervous systems evolve through our early childhood attachment relationships, and how we learn to regulate them – or not. The early life shaping of our nervous systems impacts the way we make meaning of our experiences, and thus impacts the forces that drive our choices and impacts our ability to foster relationships with ourselves and others.

By using a ‘coach approach’, I expand on this foundation in a collaborative, co-created and reflective process that encourages and empowers individuals to look at themselves differently – with curiosity and honesty – in the hopes of shifting familiar patterns in the pursuit of change in the present and for the future, alongside navigating the complexities of the systems and relationships that frame our lives.

…So, if you’ve landed here, I imagine you are already in a change process but may be seeking a little bit more support in finding the autonomy, clarity and drive needed to pursue the next chapter of your life…so…what comes next and what is standing in your way?

A little more about me…

I am the co-owner and co-Clinical Director of Shoreline Counselling, a large and ever-growing group private practice based in Vancouver and Fort Langley. In addition to carrying a small caseload of individual clients, I work with counsellors both in a clinical capacity as an Approved Clinical Supervisor and as an Associate Certified Coach in leadership and business development. In this role, I challenge and empower counsellors (and their organizations) to find more clarity around their values and explore ways to work and live in alignment with those values so they can achieve their present and future goals.

I have a Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology and a Certification in Organizational Coaching Certification from UBC. I am a member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and an Associate Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

I have clinical training in Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and advanced training in Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy (SAP).

My extensive experience in programs for youth and adults enhanced my passion for helping and establishing connections with others. I have always been interested in establishing a deeper understanding of our life experiences, how they shape us as well as the development of our interpersonal relationships. This interest and curiosity stems from my own journey with interpersonal relationships, grief, and parenthood that has developed into the foundation of my appreciation for the strength and healing that we all share within our unique journeys.

In my role as your counsellor, I will bring a person-centered, trauma informed, and attachment-based therapeutic approach. In sessions I often offer techniques that include somatic tracking, cognitive behavioural therapy, motivational interviewing, and experiential therapy (art, play, and imagery). I work with individuals (ages 13 and older) and couples that seek support in areas such as grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, sexual assault, parenting, and interpersonal relationships.

I understand the courage that it takes to arrive and find safety in this space. As your counsellor, I hope to establish an authentic and collaborative relationship where you welcome me to sit with you. I look forward to offering curiosity, non-judgemental support, and empathy all while taking these steps alongside you in this journey of reflection and growth.

I hope to hold a compassionate space where we can accept the purposes of our behaviours, while challenging ourselves to pursue new, more pleasant ways of being. We are not always shown the acceptance and compassion I believe is needed to grow into the best version of ourselves. My hope is that our therapy can help you feel accepted as you are so that you can grow into who you’d like to be. Our therapy space can be one in which we can slow down, feel compassion for ourselves, and make meaningful changes towards the goals you put forward.

In our therapeutic sessions, I draw upon the principles of Somatic therapy to help clients connect with their embodied experiences, promoting self-awareness and resilience. Grounded in the values of Humanist therapy, I create an empathetic and non-judgmental environment where you can authentically explore your thoughts and feelings. My training in behavioural therapy equips me to collaboratively address specific behaviours and patterns, working towards positive and lasting change. Additionally, I am trained in Emotionally Focused-Family Therapy which will integrate support for parents while working with youth.

I believe that by understanding the unique experiences of each individual, we can create a tailored approach to address challenges and foster personal development. Although my specialization lies in working with youth and young adults, I am open to working with clients of all ages who seek guidance, are navigating transitions, or striving for personal growth. Together, we can navigate life’s complexities, fostering a sense of self-compassion and empowering you to make meaningful changes toward your goals.

If you are looking for a supportive and compassionate space to explore your thoughts and feelings, I would be happy to come alongside you on your journey.

Counselling can be a life changing process, one that some of us put off for many years. Whether counselling is something that has been on your mind for a while, or it is a crisis situation that brings you in, I look forward to meeting you and walking with you on your journey. At this time I am working exclusively online.

I strive to create a safe, attuned, and supportive therapeutic environment. I also hold a strong belief that the past is present and that events that happened to us in our earlier life influence and shape who we are today. In my work, I use a wide array of interventions, and I often draw upon experiential, expressive and creative modalities. I have received specialized training in trauma and dissociation and am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI), and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.

I graduated from Trinity Western University, where I received a Bachelor degree in Psychology, as well as a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. I am also a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I work with men, women, and families in areas of anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem, relational difficulties, trauma, dissociation, personality disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and attachment related issues. Although I find it rewarding working with clients from diverse backgrounds, I do have a specific focus on working with men who have experienced complex trauma.

To continue my education and learning, I am actively participating in relevant trainings, keeping up to date on current research, and attending lectures and annual conferences.

It brings great meaning to my life to walk alongside my clients and to witness their growth and resiliency, to support them in their times of struggle, and celebrate in their times of strength. I count myself fortunate to participate in the journey of self-discovery, growth, and healing with my clients and am honored to be a part of the process.

As human beings a necessary process for all of us is to learn what our emotions are and what they need. So often our old patterns or attachment systems, past traumas, anxiety and even the cultural expectation to “be positive” take over and cause us to suppress what needs to be expressed. Suppressed emotions can show up in all kinds of symptoms (rage, anxiety, depression, sickness, addictions, over scheduling, and more). It is always my desire to create the safety needed for these emotions to be felt, and for you to trust and know you can be ok in those feelings. When this happens, freedom comes- our nervous systems can be released from the past traumas and the old emotions that have been locked inside. We can live in the present and live with less symptoms, as we truly believe we are ok and deeply loved as we are.

My Trained modalities include: - Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) - EMDR - OEI (level 1 and 2) - Satir - CBT

I offer individual sessions to adults and teens, but another niche I offer is parent support through family sessions. Being a parent myself to three children, I have grown such compassion for parents in my practice. It is an incredibly hard job raising little and big kids, but it doesn’t have to be a lonely one. My approach with parent sessions includes education on attachment and emotion coaching and building awareness around the fears and blocks coming up for you as you relate to your child/ children. It is not surprising that many of us (myself included) have our own suppressed emotions being triggered as we parent, so sometimes we need to do the personal work to soothe our own nervous systems before we can step in and effectively soothe and emotionally attune to our child’s system. When we can do this, imperfectly, we foster a more secure attachment to our child and grow in our own confidence as a parent.

If what is written here resonates with you- I would love to connect and begin a journey of walking together through counselling.

My therapeutic approach is person-centred and emotion-focused. My hope is that we work collaboratively, honouring the unique individual that you are. I strive towards assisting individuals in fostering self-compassion, exploring sense of self, in order to begin releasing the burden of self-judgement. Emotional wounds most often involve relationships with others, yet the impact of these wounds leave us with an immense sense of aloneness. The relationship between therapist and client is an emotionally healing and profoundly meaningful agent of change. Therefore, it is my greatest privilege to walk alongside my clients through their painful feelings in a connected and safe environment of support and growth. This is the foundation of my work.

I attained my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Trinity Western University. I have been working in the mental health field since 2013 in a variety of capacities including positions at Brookswood Counselling Services, Battered Women’s Support Services and Ishtar Women’s Resource Centre.

My main specializations are working with individuals who have suffered from complex relational trauma as well as dissociative disorders. In addition, I’m extremely passionate about working with women who have suffered from intimate partner violence and abuse. I also regularly work with various mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues (couples and adult family counselling), self-esteem and identity issues.

Being able to open up and work through one’s pain can be a scary thing for many, which I can relate to from personal experience. On top of my professional training, the commitment I have made to understanding and working through my own traumatic experiences has helped me to develop personal insight into abusive relational dynamics. Furthermore, it has helped me immensely in developing a sense of compassion both toward myself and others. This in turn has inspired me to strive to be an outlet of security and trust whereby my clients can enter into both their places of darkness and light with strength and self-compassion.

I have done training in several different evidence-based therapy modalities including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Level 1 and 2), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)/AEDP for Couples, Occupational Awareness for First Responders, and Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy. I draw mostly from relational/experiential models, that involve emotion and body-based techniques, as well as elements of cognitive-behavioural work.

I am a co-founder of one of Shoreline’s groups, “Calming Body and Mind: Skills for Coping with Trauma”, which is an educational and experiential group for those suffering from symptoms and/or effects of trauma and would like to learn coping skills for managing them. As such, it is of utmost importance to me to facilitate an experience to help clients understand how difficult life situations have affected them as well as assisting them in acquiring practical tools that they can use to move through life.

I enjoy working with both individuals and couples in a collaborative way that honours my clients in their current situation while using my professional experience to come up with solution-focused strategies to move forward. One of my main goals is to facilitate a safe environment made up of trust and authenticity. I feel privileged in being able to walk alongside my clients during their times of need, as well as being there to celebrate their important milestones along the way.

I look forward to being able to accompany you on your journey at whatever point you invite me to do so.

Welcome to Shoreline! My name is Tina (she/her) and I am a clinical fellow here.

My experiences stem from working as a crisis service responder; providing immediate emotional support to individuals in crises and with suicidal ideation. I am also well-versed with local resources having worked as a community resource specialist at a non-profit information centre.

I approach my clients with non-judgmental empathy, and I aim to be on your side by understanding your emotions and situation first. I work from a holistic, trauma-informed and somatic-oriented approach. This means we will also be working with the signals from your body to better understand your experience.

My own journey with counselling has helped me understand what the counselling process looks like for a client. I believe that counselling is a process of gaining insight on your emotions, behaviours, and how your upbringing impacts your experiences of the world. As your counsellor, I will guide you to gain a deeper understanding of your situation, and we will collaborate to come up with personalized strategies that complement your current situation.

I work with youth, adults, and couples with an emphasis on managing anxiety and depression, processing trauma, easing life transitions, building healthy relationships, understanding perfectionism, and building resilience and personal growth.

If you are feeling stuck, uncertain, anxious, lost, or if you are looking for a listening ear to unload the burden off of your shoulders, I invite you to reach out to me for a consultation.

Looking forward to connecting with you!

As a fellow human being, I am intimately acquainted with my own experiences of pain. As a therapist, my heart is devoted to accompanying others on their journey so that they may not have to navigate their pain alone, understanding that suffering is often compounded when endured in isolation.

As a counsellor, my intention is to journey alongside you, to create a space that holds the potential for something different. A space where healing is possible, where you can connect with yourself and others in authentic and honouring ways.

Holistic

As the therapist my aim is to see what it is like for you in this world. I strive to be curious with all aspects of your being. Your emotional, mental, relational, spiritual, and somatic (bodily) experiences. Together, we can explore how to access the wisdom of your body and mind to promote healing and well-being.

Relational

As a therapist my core belief is that everyone deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported, especially when life feels overwhelming and uncertain. What matters to me is being right here with you. There is healing potential in connected and attuned relationships. Just as relationships can often be the source of our pain they can also be in part the source of our healing and growth.

My clinical practice is grounded in being client centered and trauma informed. I work from an emotion, body focused, neuroscientific, and attachment framework. My areas of practice include relational trauma, identity, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, boundary setting, self-compassion, assertiveness, communication, relational concerns and more.

My specialized training includes emotion focused, somatic, attachment, and parts work. I utilize modalities such as Accelerated Experiential Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) Somatic-Relational Psychotherapy (SAP), Core Self Reclamation Therapy (CSRT).

It would be my honor and privilege to walk alongside you as you courageously step into the profoundly meaningful work of counselling.

Prior to completing my Master’s Degree in Counselling, I worked in the mental health field for fifteen years, supporting victims and survivors of crime or traumatic events. I was consistently humbled by the incredible resilience that I witnessed during these years. Eventually I began to recognize that the healing journey extended far beyond the scope of my interactions with individuals in crisis.

This inspired me to pursue a degree in counselling so that I could walk alongside clients during a new part of the healing journey.

I have come to learn that a strong therapeutic relationship can be one of the most powerful catalysts for change and personal growth. My focus is on connection and safety first and foremost. I feel that we are all so connected to everyone and everything, all the time, yet we have become terribly disconnected from those around us, and even disconnected from ourselves. Creating a safe connection in counselling offers a secure foundation from which to collaborate and navigate life’s challenges.

My therapeutic approach is holistic, relational, and client-focused, and seeks to address both immediate and long-standing concerns. I believe that cultivating self-compassion and empowerment around significant life events can lead to new insights and understanding, and can provide relief from painful or difficult emotions.

I look forward to meeting you at any stage of your journey.

My own journey with mental health began when we found out my mom had cancer. Feeling lost and alone, I realized that regardless of the situation, many people go through life feeling similarly and yearn for the desire of connection and being seen by others. I am honored to be present and a part of this journey that we all go through as fellow humans.

I received my M.Ed in Counselling Psychology from SFU. I am currently working on my two year Somatic Attachment Psychotherapy training. I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Couples Therapy and have completed the Inter-Provincial Occupational Awareness Training and Introduction to Trauma Exposed Professionals through Warrior Health. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and couples from my time at the Surrey Anti-Gang and Family Empowerment Program.

Being a part of people’s healing journeys is sacred to me and I strongly believe that the care, empathy, and compassion I bring to my clients makes all the difference in developing our counselling relationship and helping you achieve your desired outcomes. Our time together is you leading the way, with me along for the ride as we navigate the challenges of life and experience growth and healing.

I like to take a collaborative and experiential stance. We focus on your needs, while we work on increasing your capacity to sit with emotions, explore them and understand how they impact your body. I believe that counselling is a chance for you to have a voice, speak freely and to build a trusting, safe relationship, with not just me, but other people in your life. Meeting you where you are at in your journey is a strong value I hold, and so in collaboration, we can explore an approach that works best for you.

From the beginning, we are given a specific set of skills. Our environment and biology continue to shape us as we are faced with unique challenges. Throughout our development we learn that living in this world is no easy task. The skills that we have or acquired aren’t working the way we had hoped. It is in this moment that we can feel lost and alone. My hope is to create a space for everyone to explore these experiences and acquire new skills to help them face life’s challenges. It is through this that we build resilience and are able to reach our goals.

I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Counselling at Trinity Western University where I knew that I was passionate about helping people. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work at Child and Youth Mental Health and gained a deeper understanding of the variety of mental illnesses that our children and youth face today. Currently, I work in schools where my main role is to support staff and students in understanding mental health and the various crises that they experience. Moving into the counselling setting, my goal is to walk alongside the individual and create a space for them to feel heard, seen, and cared for. I believe the relationship between the client and therapist is influential in the process of healing.

Throughout the years in my practice, I continue to pursue specialized training to develop my expertise in supporting individuals and building resilience. This allows me to have a wide variety of skills to specialize the treatment and meet the needs of the client. My approach to counselling is influenced by this training, which includes Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Family Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I enjoy working with a wide variety of individuals and find myself energized when working with children, youth, and young adults from all walks of life.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology followed by my master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University and I continue my education and training as a lifelong learner. Before becoming a counsellor, my volunteer and work experience at the crisis center, in the homeless community, as a corporate sales trainer, and raising three children, I saw first-hand the positive impact a guiding, supportive, empathic voice can be in others’ lives. The transformations I witnessed through these experiences are what motivated me to pursue my dream of becoming a counsellor.

Working with adults, children, families, and groups for a non-profit organization in the community, I am trained in trauma-informed practice, child-centered play therapy, person-centered, CBT, somatic therapy, emotion and attachment theory. Through my studies I completed extensive research on children with learning disabilities and their families. I understand the difficulties parents and children can experience as they navigate their way through the obstacles and concerns after diagnosis, and I provide guidance, coping skills, support and hope to these families. Along with families and children, I work closely with individual adults with mental and emotional health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress.

My therapeutic approach is to cultivate a safe, trusting, and collaborative space for my clients to feel comfortable exploring their emotions, barriers, and life challenges. I aim to provide a strong therapeutic alliance of genuineness, non-judgment, and empathy in order to create a firm foundation from which my clients can begin their journey as I walk alongside them in their growth and healing.
